Lines of different colors extrude from both right and left of the painting, which interact (or miss each other) in various ways.
Line colors are similar but distinct. There are two sets of red/white/blue lines which differ in hue from each other.
The phrase “one nation”, is more complicated than it seems at first glance.
While the United States is indeed one nation, it is not:
- one culture
- one race
- one religion
- one politic
- one gender
- of one opinion
I want viewers of this work to consider how “one” Americans actually need to be, considering how diversity and difference strengthens rather than weakens our nation. Using similar, but different red/white/blue colors I am emphasizing that patriotism doesn’t take just one form.
