In September of 2023, Tim McKay was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), a chronic, progressive condition with tremors, slowness speech changes and cognitive decline. It’s a disease with no way to predict the eventual extent of disability. One to Somewhere became McKay’s visual journal for learning, reflecting, and growing in a year of high uncertainty. He completed 71 works on paper and six canvases, begun with one directive—What do you want to paint today?

Not a Hero, Not a Victim, Artist Talk & Exhibit Walk-Through: Saturday, December 14th at 2:30 PM

Focus of talk will be on finding a path through loss and the power of art as an aid to clarify complicated thoughts and feelings. I will talk both about how my art practice and technique have morphed over the year, and how the art itself has helped me to change for the better.  The year following a PD diagnosis can be confusing and lonely. I want to provide anyone going through this, or any life-transforming process, a measure of realism about difficulties they will face, but also how capitalizing on relationships, humor, and personal strengths can ease unavoidable pain.
