Tim McKay is a Denver-based painter who works in acrylic and mixed media. Primarily, his art is about the use of color, line, and creating meaningful interplay between organic and inorganic forms. Thematically, his work explores the intersection of random and predictable actions. Trained as a clinical psychologist with specialties in psychological assessment and the treatment of children and families, McKay is interested in how art can evoke emotion and connection, as well as how art can speak to issues of violence and healing. In addition, McKay worked for over 20 years as a software designer, and within his practice of art applies concepts of software engineering such as accessibility, scalability, and preference in creating a body of work with a consistent style which promotes user-centric interactions.

McKay’s formal instruction in art has been through the Art Student League of Denver, where he has been a student of Homare Ikeda, Dale Chisman, Michael Gadlin, and Jeff Wenzel.
